Cause: tuberculosis Citation details: Page 295 Note: presumably in Mississippi. Samuel Newman Wilks wrote his father Samuel in Bedford County, Virginia, a letter dated 20 Jan 1836, "Dir father . . . Uncle JOHN and Aunt BARBY is both dead. Aunt died three days first. Neither one would take anything while they were sick."¶ Ben Wilks's daughter Betsy Ann Creasey died in 1835 of consumption, and family tradition is that John's family in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, with the exception of some orphan children, died of the same disease (tuberculosis). |

"It is likely that Francis provided either supplies or civil or military service during the Revolutionary war, for at its end he was given a Land Office Treasury Warrant." Doris Ross Johnston. On May 19, 1795 he received a Virginia land grant for 618 acres between Blackwater River and Gills Creek "by virtue of a Land Office Treasury Warrant No. 20,904 dated 1 Dec 1783". The land was surveyed 25 Feb 1794 in the County of Franklin between black water River and Gills Creek." Francis moved SW from Bedford to Franklin County Virginia- Doris Ross Johnston.
