Note

From Funeral Service Brochure recived 14 APR 2007- Nora Christina Crocker (Christie) was born on Christmas Day, 1908, on a farm near Diamond, Missouri. In her memoirs This I Remember she tells of growing up doing farm work. One day while riding the lead horse pulling the binder, she fell asleep and tumbled off the horse. Like she did with so many other things she “got right up and carried on.” Christie enjoyed horseback riding, ice skating and learned to shoot well enough to put meat on the family table. Her nickname was “Krispy Cracker”.
After graduating from high school, she got a job for a while in a pants factory. On April 28, 1927, she married her high school sweetheart, Fred Hitt. The early years of their marriage were spent in Oklahoma where their first child, Rosalie, was born and died. Sometime after that they both got government jobs and moved to the Washington, D.C. area where Dan and Rod were born. Fred’s employment with the IRS took them to New York where Fred and David were added to the family. Feeling that New York was not a good place to raise a family, they moved to Texas, first Galveston and then, in 1943, to Dallas.
The Hitt family was a near-charter family in Urbandale Christian Church where they participated in the many activities. Christie continued to be active in that congregation as long as she lived in Dallas.
After Fred retired in 1962, he and Christie spent several years “travel trailering”. They visited all 50 states at least once, wearing out one trailer along the way, and only stopping when Fred’s shoes were stolen…along with their trailer!
After Fred’s death in 1898, Christie continued to live in Dallas until she relocated to Longwood, Florida in 1991. As long as physically able, she remained active in the Chambrel community, even being selected Mardi Gras Queen.
Christie will be missed by her family and friends.

Note

"First, I would like to thank David Hitt for suggesting a composition of my poems in book form, and making them available for family members at the Hitt family reunion in September 2003," Christie N. Hitt. "Rhythm and Rhymes" by Christie N. Hitt, published 2003. The Dedication reads: "We celebrate the vanished years, We talk and sing with pleasure; With smiles that might as well be tears, So sad and faint their measure. We think how great would be our bliss, How sweet would sound the chorus, If we could join at times like this With those who went before us. And so to Dan and Ellen Hitt And their descendants, large and small, I dedicate this humble writ And pray God's blessing on us all."
