Note	OXNARD, CALIFORNIA - May 1998¶ Laquita Mona Burns, 65, of Oxnard, passed away Saturday May 23, 1998, at Pleasant Valley Hospital after a brief illness. Born August 30, 1932, in Burnet, Texas, she was a county resident here for 29 years, coming from San Angelo, Texas. Laquita was a proof-reader for the Press Courier for 20 years. ¶ Mom was an avid gardener and loved beautiful music, often expressing this love by playing the piano. ¶ After the Press Courier closed, Laquita decided to complete her education and graduated with high honors from California State University at Northridge. ¶ She is survived by her mother, Loma Irene Wilks of Brownwood, Texas; daughters, Alleta Irene Ojeda of San Fernando, and Mona Etoil Granados of Anaheim; son-in-law, Ronald Ernest Granados, Jr., of Anaheim; brother, Ron Douglas Wilks of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Edith Joy Thomason of Brownwood, Texas, and Koleta Irene Hunter of Casper, Wyoming; and grandchildren, Michael, Zack and Tina. ¶ A service of memory is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 1998, in the Chapel of Heritage Square, 8th & B Streets, Historic Oxnard.
