Excerpts - Obituary appeared in the Thursday, May 7, 2009, issue of The Rising Star" - Gary is survived by his wife, Beth (Wilks) Maynard of Rising Star, Texas; his daughters: Charlene Bailey of Abilene, Texas; Darlene Perrin and husband David of Granbury, Texas; Gari Sue Carroll and husband Brandon of Granbury, Texas; his son: Paul Green and wife Amy of Cisco, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brothers: Jerald Maynard and wife Pat of Rising Star, Texas; Worley Maynard of Humble,Texas; his sister: Sara Nettles and husband Leroy of Abilene, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews and adoption-of-the-heart loved ones...¶ From childhood, Gary worked with his dad and brothers farming and harvesting peanuts, developing a powerful life-long work ethic. . . ¶ He worked at the bank in Rising Star six years while continuing to farm his land. . . .After the bank, Gary worked in the oil field and farmed. . . ¶ He was a teacher, a banker, a horse trainer, a
farmer of peanuts, vegetables, watermelons (including the 100 plus pounds variety), vineyard owner, ostrich and emu farmer, Boer goat producer, cattle rancher. He showed and trained animals, developed a proprietary mud system
design, worked as an oil and gas mud engineer, a salesman, a truck driver, a harvester, an airplane pilot, a crop duster, a roughneck, a land man, a mud engineer classroom instructor, a tuxedo model, a heavy equipment operator, a
mechanic of heavy equipment and small engines, a dispatcher, a bounty hunter, a purchasing agent, a masonry contractor, an antique dealer, a campaign manager, and the owner of several businesses along the way. . . . ¶
