Burial of a husband
|
Cemetery: Sardis Cemetery
Address: GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 35.43670, Longitude: -88.283. Sardis Cemetery is located about 3/4 mile south of Sardis on the road to Saltillo. Text: It is an old cemetery and one of the largest in Henderson County. The cemetery is well maintained. Like many area cemeteries which have been in continuous use since before the Civil War, fieldstone have all been removed and the oldest part of the cemetery near the crest of the rise in the center is being reused. The markers from the 1960s through 1990s are surrounded by markers from the 1830s through 1860s. The total number of people buried here without markers cannot be estimated but must number over 100. Note: Garrett Newman circa 1792 - Oct. 1859 has a replacement stone according to David Donahue, the creator of Sardis Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee, file. |
