Note

His obituary read, "Another Good Citizen Crossed the Great Divide. On Nov 12th 1915, the angel of death visited another one of our homes and claimed as his own Mr. S. T. Wilkes. As a man Mr. Wilkes stood high in the estimation of our people, being honored and respected by all as a true friend, citizen and neighbor, slow of speech, though positive in his convictions.
"Deceased was born at Oakland, Miss., in 1849, was married to Miss Ella Tullis of Memphis, Tenn., in 1875, and came to Arkansas in 1884, living in the vicinity of Formosa since 1887. To that union there were born nine children, seven of whom survive.
"Mr. Wilkes was member of the Baptist church and was always found at his post of duty so long as he was able to attend church. While his family has lost their best earthly friend the community has lost a good citizen, whom we all mourn.
"So far as we know he always set a good example before his family. May we take warning and try to live better lives each and every day that we may hear that welcome applaudit, 'well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord,' is the prayer of the author.
D. J. Halbrook, M.G."
