Obituary
|
Note: Her obituaries read, "Mrs. Malvina Wilks, wife of Samuel Wilks, died at her home near this city Saturday morning at 5:30 o’clock. Rev. J. E. Bryan conducted the funeral services and interment was in Combs cemetery." [Washington County Review6 June 1907]¶ "Died on the morn of June 1st at her home 5 miles south of Fayetteville, Malvina Wilks, wife of Sam Wilks. She was born Dec. 8th, 1847. Her death broke the link that had joined husband and wife for 38 years; one can hardly imagine what a trial it was for the aged companion. Her maiden name was Wilson. She was married to Sam Wilks in the year 1869. She was born and reared in Arkansas. She was the mother of seven children and seven grandchildren and the aged husband, who all live to mourn her loss. Her children and friends that watched by her bedside during her sickness say that she had more than her share of suffering. All through the 6 months of her sickness children and friends watched by her bedside, ever trying to soothe the pain or cool the burning fever. When they looked on her in death the tears that were wrung from their hearts were almost dried away by the look of peace she wore on her face. It seems like a true token that she had found her relatives and friends who had preceded her to the better world. She was laid to rest Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Combs Cemetery. Mrs. Wilks was a highly honored woman and was loved by all who knew her. [Hester & Maggie Tunstil? Washington County Review 13 June 1907] |
