Note: Peter Turney’s 1st Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Company I, was also called 1st Confederate Infantry and 1st Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (Prov). Company I was formed at Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee for a period of twelve months from men in Coffee County. It was enrolled in 29 April 1861 and joined the Regiment shortly thereafter and mustered into Confederate service at Lynchburg, Virginia on 8 May 1861. Its nickname was "The Tullahoma Guards" or "Cowan Guards" Another nickname said to be "Jo Lane Company." They surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse April 9, 1865.
