Obituaries: Durango Herald Democrat¶ Tuesday August 27, 1935¶
"J. A. BONDURANT DIES MONDAY AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS¶ James A. Bondurant, Breen, for many years a resident of the San Juan Basin, passed away at a local hospital Monday evening after a short illness.¶ Since 1877 Mr. Bondurant had made this section his home almost continuously, and hd been one of the prominent residents of La Plata County. He has been active in stock raising in years past and at one time a heavy property owner in North Durango.¶ Mr. Bondurant was born in Curryville, Mo., March 27, 1854 and at the time of his death was 81 years of age. On April 5, 1877, he was married to Miss Martha J. McClain at Vandalia, Mo. She preceeded him in death, having passed away Dec. 11 last year.¶ In 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Bondurant moved to Durango where they resided until 1889. They then went to Montezuma County where they remained for a year, returning here in 1900 and remaining until 1928 when they moved to Breen.¶ Before coming to Colorado, Mr. Bondurant was a teacher in Missouri schools.¶ Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Bertha D. Morrison of Dolores, Mrs. Blanche Philllips of Sparks, Mo., and Mrs. Virginia Russell of Pueblo; 15 grandchildren and one brother, E. J. Bondurant of Curryville, Mo.¶ Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hood Mortuary, and are pending the arrivial of Mrs. Russell from Pueblo on this evening's eastern train."

Durango Herald Democrat¶ Thursday August 29, 1935¶ BONDURANT FUNERAL WILL BE SATURDAY¶ Funeral services for James A. Bondurant , Breen, who passed away on Monday will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of the Hood Mortuary. the Rev. W. H. Muston will officiate, and interment will be in the family plot at Greenmount, under the direction of Hood Mortuary.¶ Mrs. Virginia Russell, daughter of Mr. Bondurant, arrived from Pueblo, called by the death of her father. ¶
