January 2003 Info. From notes and conversation with Delores Shaver (d/o Ethyl Maude Richards Popejoy) Alvin and Delores (born 1930) have 4 sons; -Craig who is a schoolteacher -Dennis, a contractor (mostly floors) -Keith is an engineer -Stewart, (born 1960) is the director for the State Police Training Academy All children in Rockford.¶ Doris Jean Cabrera, (sister of Delores) has passed away many years ago. Doris Jean had been self medicating with aspirin and for whatever reason, they didn’t digest in her system. Her death was caused by complications of the aspirin build up in her system. Doris Jean’s children; -Kirby is a truck driver and lives in Kansas City, MO -Pam is working at a factory somewhere in Rockford -Alisha, aka “Tish” works at School of Hope -Steve is a truck driver -Brent is a medical technician -Julie is Supervisor at School of hope All children are in Rockford except Kirby.¶ Monette Arkansas is where Delores says they were “from”. Charley & Ethyl are buried near there, (about 5 miles N of Monette), Macy Cemetery.¶ She also said they lived in Alamo, TX for a winter. She thinks it was 1941. Her father, Charley Popejoy, had a sister that lived there. Charley was a farmer and the weather was nice there and Charley was able to find work there. Ethyl was also able to find work that year in TX. (Her SS# was issued in TX).¶ 1943-44 they lived in Adrian, MI on Division St. It was on the corner of Division and ? There was a little market just a few houses away. Charley and Ethyl both found work at a magnesium plant in Adrian. (Possible what is now the GM plant). It was during the war and they were making parts for our army. This is when “Uncle Bob” (aka Charlie Seabolt) came to MI and met Claretta. (They were also working at the same plant.) Uncle Bob had just gotten out of the Army. Delores said he had been discharged because he had gotten sick, but she could not remember what the sickness was. Uncle Bob lived upstairs and we (Popejoys) lived downstairs.¶ This is also where Uncle Bob met Hazel Jacobs, who was also from MI, not sure where in MI she was from. Delores remembers meeting both women. “After Claretta got pregnant (Barry was born Dec 1945, so this must have been early part of 1945), Uncle Bob went off and married Hazel.” They moved back to Hoxie when everyone else did. Marie was born Sept 1946 in Hoxie. They (Uncle Bob, Hazel & Marie) were at Charley & Ethyl’s house in Monette, Arkansas, when Hazel “ran off”. ¶ PAGE # 2¶ No body ever knew why she ran off. She said she (Delores) was a teenager at the time and does not remember ever seeing Uncle Bob be mean to Hazel. Uncle Bob & Marie stayed at Charley & Ethyl’s house for about a week. Aunt Veda came down from Rockford and took Marie, who was about a year old at the time (which would make it 1947). Uncle Bob went back to MI. Joy was born in Hoxie in Jan. 1949.¶ Delores believes that Hazel and Bob were married. However, she also thought that Claretta and Bob had gotten married.¶ John Richards (Margaret Mings' first husband, Delores’ Grandfather) died in 1917.¶ Charley Sebolt (aka Charles Samuel Seabolt), and Maggie Richards were married in 1918 in Hartville, MO. Their children were born near there, also. (1919, 1921, 1923.) “Jesse David Seabolt” (father to Charles Samuel), died in (Sedgwick??), Arkansas in 1923. (Sedgwick is very near Hoxie) Possible that Charley and Maggie moved to Hoxie area right after the children were born.¶ Delores thinks that Grandpa Seabolt had gotten work at the RR that runs through Hoxie and Walnut Ridge. Grandma & Grandpa lived there until Grandpa died in 1956. Aunt Veda went to Hoxie and brought Grandma to Rockford where she lived for many years. Grandma lived in MI with “Bob” and Claretta and family for a while, but most of her later years were spent in Rockford, IL. until her death in 1969.¶ Charles Samuel Seabolt and Margaret Elizabeth Mings Richards Seabolt are both buried in Lawrence Memorial Cemetery in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas.¶ Delores remembers as a child living in Monette, Arkansas, going to her Grandma’s in Hoxie to go fishing. She remembered meeting Clarence McLaughlin there. She thinks he was related, but wasn’t sure if he was related on Grandma’s side or Grandpa Seabolt’s side. Clarence’ wife had a “small arm” from polio or something. She had red hair.¶ Delores finished high school and went on to college. She started in Arkansas and finished her degree in Rockford. She worked many years at an accounting firm.¶ Delores mentioned that Grandma’s brothers were all very tall, 6’7’ & 6’8”. One of Grandma’s brothers, Jim, was “deaf & dumb”. There was also a cousin of the Mings in Wisconsin, an “eye doctor”.¶ Delores didn’t know much about the Seabolt family. She thought that the Seabolts were from the Branson, MO area. (Just north of Boone County, Arkansas).¶ Maxine White was a beautiful girl, but Delores didn’t know what Maxine did for a living in California. Maxine’s younger sister, Vernie Hayes, called Delores about 30 years ago and wanted $$. Delores didn’t give it to her for fear that she would show up at their home and be a bad influence on her children. Family lore says that Vernie was last known to be in Las Vegas.¶ Delores is currently ill with a serious lung condition she uses oxygen for. Citation details: "Pedigree Resource File," database |
