"Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma, October 16, 1941, Thursday - Mrs. O.<p> H. Young, prominent 76-year old former Elk City residence and one of the city's first settlers, died Thursday morning in Oklahoma City at the home of her son, L. D. Young, with whom she has made her home for the past four years.<p> Mrs. Young, a member of one of Elk City's most prominent families since the town was established in 1901, died Thursday morning following an illness of five and one-half months.<p> She was born December 4, 1865, at Smith Bend, Texas, and lived in Hillsboro, Texas, prior to 1900 when she moved to Cheyenne with her husband and two sons.<p> Her husband, the late O. H. Young, who proceeded his wife in death, January 3, 1927, formed a partnership with Col. F. E. Herring in 1900 and moved the family to Elk City in 1901 when they opened the Herring and Young Mercantile store, one of Elk City's first business establishments.<p> After the death of Mr. Young in 1927, she retained her interest in the Herring and Young store until four years ago when she sold out to the late Col, F. E. Herring and moved to Oklahoma City.<p> Mrs. Young's body arrived in Elk City late Thursday afternoon and will lie in state at the Killough-Hullum funeral home throughout Friday morning. the casket will not be opened at the church services.<p> Survivors, are her two sons, Ford and L. D., both of Oklahoma City.<p> Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Presbyterian church with Dr. Dudley M. Clagett, pastor, officiating.<p> Burial will be in the Fairlawn cemetery with Killough-Hullum in charge of arrangements.<p>Mrs. Young was born December 4, 1865, at Smith Bend, Texas and came with her husband to old Roger Mills county in 1900. Mr. Young who died here, January 3, 1927, was associated in business with the late Colonel F. E.<p> Herring and their partnership of Herring and Young operated stores in several towns throughout this section of Western Oklahoma for many years.<p> When Elk City was established, Mr. Young brought a wagon load of merchandise here to open the Elk City Herring and Young store. Mrs.<p> Young joined him here and continued to live in Elk City until about four years ago, when she moved to Oklahoma City to be near her sons.<p> She was one of the founders of the Elk City Presbyterian church. She was active in club work there and had been an officer in the grand lodge of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her two sons, L. D. and H. Ford of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mrs. Ola Ende, Greenville, Texas; and Mrs.<p> Bertha Weekley, Ennis, Texas; seven brothers, Guy Ford, Sayre; W. T.<p> ford, Cordell; J. F. Ford, Willow; H. C. Ford, Granite; Duncan Ford, San Antonio; charles Ford and Walter Ford, Dallas.
