"SAMUEL WHITESIDE was born about 1777 in South Carolina, probably in Chester County. He was one of the sons of Hugh Whiteside (1738-1802) and Margaret Lusk (1743-1830), who migrated to Cathey’s Creek in the early 1800s. Samuel married first to Cynthia Farris and married second to Elizabeth Farris. Samuel’s children were: Milton (1811-1877) married Mary E. Cathey; Osborn; Alexander (born ca 1825); James D. (born ca 1826); Rowena married James Kilpatrick; Mary married Eli Pogue; and Janette married Jordan Pogue. Samuel Whiteside was a Captain in the War of 1812. Samuel’s brothers were William, Abraham, Hugh, James, Thomas and Robert. Samuel died after 1850. Submitted by Paul E. Cooper. "
