Of the early Whiteside settlers who moved into the Cathey’s Creek area of Lewis/Maury Counties in the early 1800s, most, if not all of them descended from High Whiteside (1738-1802) and Margaret Lusk (1743-1830 of Fishing Creek, Chester County, SC. Five of his sons and their families moved to Cathey’s Creek between 1800 and 1810, settling near Hampshire. Two sons, James and Hugh, remained in South Carolina. …”
