Note

"US Congressman. Elected as a Whig to represent Kentucky's 3rd District in the Thirty-Second and Thirty-Third Congresses, he served from 1851 until his death in office. Born in Danville, Kentucky, Ewing graduated from its Centre College in 1840 and from the Law School of Transylvania University in 1843. For a time he considered becoming a minister and studied theology at the Baptist Seminary in Newton, Massachusetts (1845 to 1846), before returning to Kentucky to begin his law career in Russellville. He was a member of the State House of Representatives in 1848 and 1849. As a Congressman, Ewing's youth and gentle humor made him popular with his constituents and he was elected to a second term without opposition. He died of cholera at 32 in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. There is a cenotaph in his memory at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. (bio by: Bobb Edwards) "
