Obit in the Friday, January 5, 1917 Centralia, MO Fireside Guard. Transcribed as written. --D.B. KANATZAR DEAD--Davis Beauregard Kanatzar, aged 55 years, 6 months and 7 days, died at his home in South Centralia Sunday morning, December 31, 1916 of locked bowels. Mr. Kanatzar appeared in ordinary health Thursday was attending to his coal business as usual and had eaten a very hearty supper the evening before he was taken down. On Friday he was in a very serious condition and his attending physician decided an operation would be necessary. Dr Clapp of Moberly and Dr Austene performed the surgery. Mr. Kanatzar came out from under the effects of the annesthetic and he appeared to be resting nicely for the first time since he was seized with the illness, but the end came early Sunday. His illness and death came as a shock to the people of Centralia, who had never suspected but that he was in the best of health a few days before and their sympathies go out to the wife and children, who were so suddenly bereaved of husband and father. Davis Beauregard Kanatzar was the son of James and Cyrena Kanatzar and was born June 24, 1861. He was married to Miss Martha Alice Everman on February 16, 1893. To this union four children were born, two of whom, Orpheus and Beryldean have preceded their father to the grave. The wife and two children, Martha Jocelyn and Richard Laverne still survive. Mr. Kanatzar united with the Christian Church in Oklahoma about 15 years ago and has kept the faith ever since. After his marriage he located in Oklahoma and lived there quite a while before returning to Centralia where he had since made the family home. He was a most industrious man whose ambition was to see that the family was well provided for. He was a kind, devoted husband and loving father and a good neighbor. Funeral services were conducted at the home early Monday afternoon, after which the funeral cortege wended its way to Union Church south of town, where the funeral sermon was preached by Elder C.O. Purdy, to a large concourse of relatives and friends, after which the body was laid away in the cemetery at that place by the side of the two children who had gone before. The following nephews and cousins of the deceased acted as pall bearers at the funeral: L.V. and Milford Kanatzar of Kansas City; Solly Kanatzar and Leslie Yarrington of Moberly; Curtis Everman of Columbia; and C.C. Kimbrell of Centralia. The deceased was a member of the Knights and Ladies of Security in which he carried a $3000 policy. He also carried old line insurance as a safeguard to his family. The Guard extends sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives. Citation details: Friday, January 5, 1917 |
