Note

"The James Marrs, Jr. family came to Texas from northeast Arkansas, Washington County. One of the people who supplied a great deal of information was Annis (King) Regan from Nowata, Oklahoma. She was the granddaughter of one of Augusta Belle Marrs' sisters--Emer Cornelia Marrs Koontz. There were many Kings in the Corn Hill area. In fact, Land of Good Water (a book about Williamson County, TX), says that Corn Hill got its name from the corn field of Judge John Ethelbert King. I think there must be some sort of connection between the King families in Williamson County and the ones in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas. I'm going to have to re-read that section of the Marrs book." - Linda Burch

Note

His obituary from the Georgetown Commercial May, 1887: "James Marrs died suddenly at his home, near Corn Hill, May 14. Mr. Marrs was born in Arkansas in 1817, but has resided in Texas for the past 26 years. Since his residence in this county he has made a host of friends. All admired his strength of honor, sterling integrity, and Christian humility. In his death the community has lost one of its best citizens, and the church one of its thorough workers. May God be kind and deal gently with his aging widow."
