Obituary: The Hamilton Herald-News ¶ December, 1974 ¶ Mrs. Mattie Knoxie (Stone) Pruitt, 82, passed away at the Hamilton County General Hospital Saturday afternoon (November 30, 1974) after a lingering illness. She was a resident of Hurley Nursing Home in Hamilton. ¶ Funeral services were held Sunday, December 1, at 4:00 p.m. in Park Heights Church of Christ with minister John Lowry officiating. Burial was in Hamilton's Oakwood Cemetery. ¶ Mrs. Pruitt was born in Memphis, Miss., January 31, 1892, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Stone, both now deceased. She was married to Jess Franklin Pruitt of Hamilton on August 16, 1911 (Hamilton County, TX Marriage Record Bk. 5, p. 218.) For many years they lived on a farm near what is now the Hamilton Municipal Airport. He preceded her in death. ¶ Mrs. Pruitt was a member of Park Heights Church of Christ in Hamilton. ¶ Survivors include four sons, Jesse E. Pruitt and James Pruitt of Hamilton, Malcom Pruitt of MIdland; and Ray Pruitt of Eastland; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Reese of Beaumont and Mrs. Faye Schrank of Hamilton; one sister, Eva Stone of Alabama; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. |
