The Hamilton Herald-News ¶ January 15, 2004 ¶ PRUITT, JESSE EUGENE "GENE" ¶ Son of Jesse Earl Pruitt and Mary Ruth Stribling. Husband of Annie Leta Tankersley and Mary Ann Newhouse. ¶ Jesse Eugene Pruitt, 63, died at Hamilton Jan. 10, 2004. Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Don Morrison, George Tolbert and Dick Stovall officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. ¶ Mr. Pruitt was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Hamilton, the son of Jesse Earl Pruitt and Mary Ruth Stribbling Pruitt. ¶ On October 19, 1986, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Newhouse at Hamilton. ¶ Mr. Pruitt loved history, especially Civil War and Egyptology. When the family went on vacations they always included a Civil War site. He loved discussing and teaching history and sharing it with his family and friends, from local family history to the history of the world. ¶ He wrote papers on Jefferson that were published by Baylor University. Mr. Pruitt, for a time, taught history at Tarleton State University. He loved music and enjoyed playing for the Tarleton band. ¶ He was a member of Parks Heights Church of Christ. ¶ Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Pruitt of Hamilton; two children, Patrick Eugene Pruitt of Kerrville and Cassandra Diane Pruitt of Hamilton; his mother, Mary Ruth Pruitt of Hamilton and two grandchildren, Jess Taylor Pruitt and Peyton McKinna Pruitt. ¶ Pallbearers were Nick Pruitt, Jimmy Pruitt, Steven Pruitt, Wendell Eaves, Ed Ramos, Josh Morrison, Stuart Newhouse and Danny Reece. |
