The north cemetery is Littleville, then Oakwood, then New IOOF. Oakwood Cemetery, the middle one, has a famous grave of Ollie L Roberts aka Billy the Kid seen easily from the road in the first row. Just south of his grave there is an interior cemetery road that runs east and west. That road is the southern boundary of Oakwood and the northern boundary of New IOOF. The Hamilton Herald-News June 29, 2006 ¶ Elmo Wilber Newsom died June 26, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. June 29 at First Baptist Church in Hamilton with Rev. Keith Felton officiating. ¶ He was born March 6, 1911, in McClennan County at Upper Valley near Moody, the son of John Daniel Newsom and Nina Goode Newsom. His early years were spent in Stampede Valley and he went to school in Willow Grove Community. ¶ Being the son of a share cropper, the family moved many times finally moving back to Blue Ridge in 1944 where he farmed until 1951. ¶ He was married to Cora Mildred Williams at Blue Ridge on July 30, 1930. ¶ In 1933 he bought a school bus which he ran for five years and was paid $50 per month. He also farmed and operated the grocery store at Blue Ridge. He and his wife bought a farm on the Blue Ridge road where they lived for 14 years. ¶ The family moved to Fort Worth during WWII where Elmo worked for Consolidated Aircraft as an electrician on B-24s. ¶ Mr. Newsom began a career working for K. A. Sparks and Herman Tomlinson and later began building on his own. He was joined by his son, Charles and they built at least 150 homes or businesses in Hamilton. ¶ Mr. Newsom was an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 55 years and served on the building committee for many years and was a member of the Builders Sunday School Class. ¶ He was preceeded in death by his first wife, Mildred; two sons, Charles Wilber and Billy Elmo; a sister and two brothers. ¶ Survivors include two daughters, Lou Chumney and husband Carl of Stephenville, Sue Kopp and husband Larry or Pottsville; two daughters-in-law, Von Newsome Burkkhalter of Godley and Janice Lorenz of Burnet; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lola Wagner of Hamilton and a sister-in-law, Edna Williams of Fort Worth. ¶ Pallbearers were Bill Don Newsom, Ben Newsom, Jay Newsom, Joey Newsom, Jerald Kopp and John Kopp. ¶ Honorary pallbearers were Chad Lyon, Austin Sewell, Chase Sewell, Ross Bullinger, Whit Whitaker and Will Whitaker. ¶ Riley Funeral Home Citation details: Memorial# 52123507.
