Because of the dedication to his beliefs, Voy and family kept the seventh day Sabbath in their home for many years with occasional guests and visitors. In 1980 they had grown enough to begin building an assembly for weekly Sabbath services. The Wilks family along with the other members of their growing group would meet every other Sunday to work on the assembly building until its completion around 1982." |

Note: Voy Wilks ¶ Cisco, Texas ¶ Voy Wilks passed gracefully from this life March 14, 2010, at Hendrick Hospital, Abilene, Texas. He was eighty-nine years old. Voy was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Myrtle Fenter Wilks, several grandchildren, and four of his six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Sue Wilks; brother Kirby Wilks of Buda and sister Myrl McLean of Houston. Voy is also survived by his children: Beth Maynard of Rising Star; Ruth York and husband Joe of Cisco; Farris Wilks and wife Jo Ann of Cisco; Tovayah Nelms and husband Kerry of Bruceville; Dan Wilks and wife Staci of Cisco. He had forty-two grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. ¶ Voy was born to William Wesley Whiteside Wilks and Erie Catharine Taylor Wilks on December 17, 1920 near Hedley, Donley County, Texas.¶ Voy Wilks was a long-term resident of Eastland County . He was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Assembly of Yahweh, which he pastored for many years. In addition, he was a brick mason whose work is still evident in buildings throughout Texas and beyond. He has left a powerful legacy of faith, family, hard work, achievement, knowledge, and caring for others. He will be missed sorely. ¶ A memorial service for Voy Wilks is scheduled for Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. at Assembly of Yahweh, ten miles south of Cisco, Texas. Directions are available at www.halleluyah.org . All friends and family are invited. Judge James King and Pastor John Robinson will officiate.
